STREET OUTREACH

In a Nutshell

In almost every city where we operate, volunteers patrol well-known “hotspots” and areas where youth gather to distribute food, clothing, hygiene products, resource information, and referrals. They commit to being present at regular times each week to foster relationships with homeless youth, helping them connect with our various programs and other valuable community resources we endorse.

Meeting and building connections with youth

Street Outreach counselors actively seek out homeless youth on the streets, addressing their primary need for ongoing care and genuine support.

A successful street outreach program does more than just locate homeless youth who might be interested in shelter services.

It also offers support to those who:

(1) Must remain on the streets,

(2) Are not ready to engage with traditional services,

(3) Fear the shelter environment,

(4) Worry about past legal issues or potential incarceration, or

(5) Fear being sent back to their homes.

Street Outreach includes:

Providing essential information about available resources, such as housing, education, employment, medical, mental health, and other support services.

Distributing food, clothing, and hygiene products.

Offering harm reduction counseling to address the dangers of street life.

Our Street Outreach programs are located in 15 areas:

Arizona (Tucson), California (Orange County, San Diego, Silicon Valley), Colorado (Denver), District of Columbia, Georgia (Atlanta), Illinois (Chicago), Massachusetts (Worcester), Ohio (Cleveland), Texas (Houston, San Antonio), Virginia (Hampton Roads), and Washington (Kitsap County, Seattle).
